From the Square (Day 722)

darkness twitters, shrieks.
Soft mist twirls among the trunks
    of sunbleached columns, joyous
dancers, poetic slips of orange
    and gold, seek the gaze
—souvenir trinkets, blazing, blinding—
shivering, the crowd, once boistrous,
    trickles from the square.
